And now we eat this garden

And quite suddenly we have a garden! And we are eating it. Last night we stole some new potatoes from under the wings of our Yukon Gold hens, picked a Costa zuke, a head of broccoli, some onions, peapods, kale and various greens, the first of our Romano tomatoes, a little basic, dill and tarragon and a few beet greens and cooked up dinner.

I recall standing in the garden in May, in a mood of quiet despair, thinking this will never come to pass. These seeds will never sprout. These plants will never grow. But despair is the weather inside your heart and spirit. It need have no effect on the world outside your skin, and knowing that, I keep digging and planting.
